I've been a professional driver for ...way too long. Many times in meetings this question comes up. The best answer I've heard is a question. "Who is the professional, here." You have to remain calm and allow the person his/her space in order to be safe.

If you know that you are driving carefully, and responsibily, and abiding the road rules, then, just calmly and quietly carry on with just that. Ignoring rude people is the best way, they hate that, they are looking for a response and when they dont get it , boy are they mad.!!

The ones that stay on my butt get the joy of my slowing down to speed limit...
The ones that cut me off....I practice deep breathing and keep my attention on driving.
I use to use every swear word in the book, but I'm trying to stay mellow and just cruise. I actually hardly swear anymore. Big accomplishment for me!!

I usually write down their license plate number and call the state police to report their bad driving.
If I can get close enough, I also yell "your mom will cry when she sees what I've done to you"
