Restart the computer in safe mode by pressing 'F8' as the computer reboots. Log in as 'Administrator.' Then, go to the 'Start Menu,' then 'Control Panel.' Then click 'User Accounts' and select the appropriate account. Then select 'Remove Password.' Then restart again, and log in. Follow these steps again, and set a new password, this time something that you will actually remember! It's important to keep a computer passworded, for your personal information, but always make sure that you won't forget it.

If you have lost or forgetten the XP administrator password, first reboot Windows XP in safe mode by re-starting the computer and pressing F8 repeated as the computer starts up. Then (in safe mode) click Start and then click Run. In the open box type "control userpasswords2" without the quotes.

You will now have access to all the user accounts, including the administrators account and will be able to reset the lost password.

Just click the administrators user account, and then click Reset Password.

You will need to add a new password in the New password and the Confirm new password boxes, and confirm by clicking OK.

All done, you have recovered the lost administrators password!

When you turn on your PC does a user(s) icons first appear and you have to click on one of them and enter your password??

If yes then instead of clicking on one of the user names press CTRL ALT DEL and a different log in will appear.

For the user name type administrator and leave the password blank. Not if you did not set a password for the secret administrator account your in. You can now fix the other accout either by changing the password, deleteing the password or removing the account.
