It cannot be prevented. It is physical damage on the platter. Windows tries to recover data and mark that spot as bad, so no other data is stored there. It is somewhat common, but too many can be a signal of a failing hard drive. Everyone should buy and external drive for saving a second copy of critical data (movies, music, pictures, documents, etc.) so they dont lose everything in a hard drive failure.

what you need to do is go to the manufactures website and download their hard disk utilities program, with it you can do a full check of the hard drive, and a low level format,

bad sectors can be repaired some times but not always, the utilities disk it will stop files from being written to the bad sectors,
