A lady I have started a correspondence because I wanted to adopt a rabbit from her rescue. I had to wait to find a home for two litters of rats before I could adopt however. weeks later the rats weren't being adopted and they suffered most for the amount of time, food, and space needed to care for them all. I did not plan the litters and they were both complete accidents that left me very surprised and frustrated. Over the next weeks I was left with property damage, an ever present scent of rat and little money or time left over to care for my other pets. I finally had to bring them to a pet shop. The next day I called the lady and told her I could adopt a rabbit now that the rats were gone. I told her I brought them to a pet shop and she flipped out stammering about how they would be food for snakes. She told me I should take them back and it was wrong to bring them there. I never called her back because I never went to get the rats. I kept my 2 males, and find myself annoyed at her.

Well if people like this woman had her way snakes would starve to death. Its a simple fact that many species of snakes eat rats, and yes there is that chance that could be the end for some or all of the rats you dropped off.
The only part about the snake trade that I disagree with is dishonest snake owners telling rat/mouse/rabbit/or other small rodent owners Oh yes we will give "it" a wonderful home then turn around and feed it to their snake where as purchasing a feeder animal is an honest way to go about feeding their snake.

There are other sources for optaining a rabbit check out craigslist.org then click on your area there are ALWAYS rabbits needing good homes.
At least you recognized you were over your head and took them to a store rather than killing them or turning them loose or someother means of "dumping" them.

I've enjoyed rats as pets but I also understand they can very hard to find homes for. At least you tried, and gave them a chance for a pet home through the pet store. They may end up as snake food, but snakes need to eat too. Just a fact of life.

Well, I guess you're both right in a way.
She was is kind of right about the snakes, they only feed them to the snakes if they can't sell them, and I understand you about being frusterated. Now, you couldn't keep a rabbit, and have rats to take a lot of care of.

I'm glad you took the rats back, though, and if you still want to sell them, a good way is on craig's list.
Always works!!!

try talking to her (after you sell them), and if for some stupid reason is mad at you, go to a different place

Good luck! :)

In this world there is something that is called a food chain and it works for all mammals, including us. It is a fact of life, nothing to flip out about.

Personally, I'd side with her, and I personally wouldn't adopt an animal to you. You had already proven that you were irresponsible and unable to do what was necessary to take care of animals in your care. The pregnancy in the first place, then the suffering of the babies, then dumping them at the pet store.

She's right and you sound like an irresponsible pet owner.
