my 8 year old son just started midget football 2 weeks ago. This Friday he went for his ck up and had a hep A shot. That afternoon he had football practice and he had been practicing for hour and a half when he came to me and said he was feeling dizzy and seeing spots. Three other boys had headaches also. any suggestions on what could have caused the dizzyness and spots? When we got home and he cooled off the dizzyness and spots went away. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I am a worrier. Thanks!!

Well, I'm glad he's better now. The fact that the situation resolved itself by him cooling down points to overheating. I don't know the temp where you live but in the midwest where I am, it's been unbearable lately. Eight year olds can get overheated and dehydrated quickly and that sounds like what happened with your son. By the time a person feels thirsty, they are usually already dehydrated, so it's very important to stay quenched with lots of water (not caffeine loaded sodas), especially while exercising in any temperature above 82 degrees. The dizziness and spotted vision has to do with his blood pressure changes as his body tries to find a way to cool itself. A headache is also very, very common. Please look up heat exhaustion and heat stroke on a reliable medical web page for more symptoms. Keep your little football player hydrated and monitor his activity in warm weather and you should be just fine. But if this occurs again without the same set of circumstances, see his physician to be sure.
Good luck!

sounds like a touch of heat stroke. Have your son Drink lots of water! I recommend purified water and Mineral Water mixed 50/50. The Mineral Water is going to put back into the muscles the minerals they are losing on a daily basis. You must drink beyond your thirst to get the benefits of hydration.

I suggest that adults and children drink 40 ounces of water per 100 pounds of body weight every day. Realize that exercise, ambient temperature, and state of health affect the water needs of your body.

if this happens again also place an ice pack on the back of the neck for fifteen minutes. This will stop the dizziness within a few minutes.

yes! could be diabetes or do you get a headache when this occurs? if so maybe its the start of migraines. Sounds like it could be from lack of rest and also could be your equilibrium {your inner ears} could be out of wacky due to fluid in the ear canal or sinus,allergies/ have you gotten in a pool lately or water IN your ear while you bathed? Notice any swollen glands on your neck or behind or under your ears? Yes! you need to go get checked out dear! Hope you feel better soon! Con grads on the newset addition to your nest!
