I got tired of the other section in Society & Culture, so I thought I'd come here to visit. There was so much racism, and "I don't care if I offend you," and I hate all censorhip, and blah blah blah...
I was wondering if the more mature generation had these same issues or if things get more peaceful with age?
Thanks : )

Thanks everyone! I feel the difference already : )
Oh, John, I meant to say that the other people were saying that they hate censorship. Not me, I can't stand having to be subjected to slurs when I'm just trying to enjoy this website. One answerer who answered a question of mine said that they felt rude, racist, and sexist comments were wrong. She received 3 thumbs down ratings right away! Shows the mentality that's spreading....
West Jefferson, we answered some of the same questions. I wouldn't bash you! You seem like a decent type of person. In fact, you're my new best friend, hehe : )

katydid ~ You're a senior? Go figure! You were the one who answered one of my questions and said that rude, racist, & sexist comments are wrong. I mentioned you in the additional details of this question : ) Funny, the only person who exhibited true values was the senior, and I didn't even know that at the time...

Hello there, and welcome to "Seniors Is Us". (Did I really type that or did my computer just show me it has a mind of it's own?)
You will find on this site some of the greatest people in the world, no matter where you live.
They are open-minded and open hearted. They come from all walks of life, many educational and vocational backgrounds and most of all, they're decent people (with the exception of the trolls, I dont waste my time answering their questions).
By the way, do you remember the little plastic troll dolls? I have one sitting on top of my computer. He has outrageous purple hair that stands up nicely.
And yes, there are some issues that get peaceful with age. Primarily because we find out that they really aren't worth the time spent surveying unintelligent thought.

I'm nicer here on the Senior Citizens territory than I am when answering general questions from all over the board. Why? Several reasons.
1) Everyone is more polite here so I don't want to rock the boat. It doesn't mean I won't though if something comes up that chaps me;
2) Everyone here generally writes questions that may not necessarily be earth-shaking in their importance but at least most are readable;
3) And, along with number 2, most seniors use proper grammar, punctuation, capitalization, spelling, and proper abbreviations instead of "y r ppl sew mein?";
4) A lot of the questions in the general sections are just infuriatingly stupid and don't really deserve anything but a smarta**ed answer. See the example in 3 above;
5) I enjoy the thought of taking the smile off the face of some smart-mouthed know-it-all.
6) I also noticed that most of the posters here in Senior Citizens are women. I don't like arguing with women. This is just something we learned back in grade school - don't hit a guy who wears glasses and don't fight with girls.

This section always seems to have decent questions and answers that have been given some thought.
I really enjoy the politics section but I can only take it in small doses. Many of the comments are so rude that I have to stay away for a while.
Seniors on this forum tend to be caring, fun, people. We like the different sections, we just don't have the patience for the rudeness. We've learned that life is too short to put up with that garbage.

If someone ticks me off I always read their profile, check out their questions and answers, to get a feel for where that person is coming from. If they are complete idiots according to the questions and answers they have posted, then I have no problem telling them they are, nicely as possible. Sometimes.
But often you read a profile and some questions and think of gosh no wonder this person is cranky.
People on Senior Citizens are okay.
Once in awhile a troll wanders in to rattle the cage and see what they can get going. Its a sad comment on our society really.
I dont see anything to scrap about with regular members, we seem to be cut from the same pattern, even if some of us hail from Canada or the UK and not all from the US of A.
Its nice for me to talk to Seniors from the US because the only ones I have ever met are my relatives and I cant stand them. Americans and Cdns dont see eye to eye on a lot of things. So this is good.
We dont often meet in "groups". The only other time I can think of is 9/11 when we opened our homes to stranded Amercians and took them in and made some friends.
I guess as we get older we've also earned some battles are worth fighting, most arent and who has the energy anyhow to be trolling?
I can think of a lot of other and better ways to expend my energy. Trying to rmember what those "good questions" were - dammit forget them again.

It's like a roller coaster for me. I've always had a healthy libido but now that I'm living through menopause there are days that sex is the last thing on my mind. Then out of nowhere, my libido is back with a vengeance. I'm in the process of having my hormones checked and hopefully I'll be able to even things out to get back to normal. I've been taking an over the counter soy product that has eliminated the hot flashes, dryness and general crankiness.

I meet the AARP standard of over 50 so I'm a senior citizen (I am 57 years old). Yes, the senior citizens part of YA is used by a well mannered bunch of folks. Even the controversial subjects are answered with thoughtful, considerate answers. I am hoping the Angry Young Men/Women don't find us and start harassing us now. If the mature-thinking young people join us then that is fine by me. I enjoy hearing from people of all ages and all walks of life.
P.S. I keep trying to remember if I was ever so eager to voice ugly thoughts when I was young. I do remember angering my father and his friends when I ranted against the war in Vietnam.

I know what you mean about R & S. I think when the kids go back to school it will get a little better during the day.
I think because many seniors have been there and done that, we earned the right to be mellow and not take things so seriously. So in answer to your question, yes we can discuss the same issues and still be respectful and nice to each other.
Do hang around, its slow but we give it quality time.

Except for an occasional troll, the folks here are very, very nice, easy going, do not attack, and in general, are fun...I cannot say that about any other section here at Yahoo. If it were not for the "Seniors Section," I would have left Yahoo long ago. The rest of the site is overrun with trolls, bigots, racists, bored children asking very inappropriate things. Yahoo is totally nonresponsive to complaints, I have no idea what their staff does to earn its money, but I can tell you they have no interest in cleaning up this site. Here, at least for now, the energy is good.

It's a relief to find a place where the questions and answers
are more interesting and well thought out. I'm tired of stupid
answers to serious questions. I think you mellow out as you
get older. I can see that this Senior section has some really
thoughtful people. I feel comfortable here.

Like you I found it very tiring on some of the other sites, I dont like argument, Im peaceful and like to dwell among like minded folks. I found SC and really have found a lot of great people here, you will like it as well.
I think our take on life is a little different because we have seen a lot, experienced so much good and bad,experience is the best teacher and there are some very wise teachers here.
Welcome from another "just arrived" member.
