I think that home improvement stores in general assume we do not know our way around a power tool, which is silly. Many women are home owners and enjoy building add-ons, making improvements or repairs. When I find people to be patronizing, I intentionally ask them a very complex question about materials or tools. This usually brings them down to earth. I recently purchased an electric lawn mower from home depot and told the guy in the department I wanted a grass catcher. I intentionally kept him tied up for another 30 minutes tracking one down after he told me the mower I got did not come from one. I knew better. Had he been nice, I would have given him the model number that appeared in the paperwork that came with the mower. Instead, I kept it in my purse and made him look for it. To be fair many workers were pleasant, but every now and then, you do meet a jerk.

I shop at Home Depot a lot and haven't had that problem. It probably depends on the store. I usually get the "women are vain idiots" treatment at car dealerships and repair shops. They think that all I'm concerned with in my vehicle is the vanity mirror and the paint color. Anyone who treats me like that usually is put straight about me, then I find another salesperson. However, that probably wouldn't work at Home Depot, since they don't work on commission.

one is you are female...two you are alone...three your young so they figure you dont know what you need which will make them have to work harder to figure out what it is you need and by then you will see they dont know **** about their job and we have figured that they dont have a clue either and then they have to ask another employee(older naturally) that has to explain to them what we are wanting and they end up looking as clueless as they are anyhow.
