Honestly? Not necessarily.
There are no guarantees in life.
But a college education can definitely prepare you, and open doors to future material and social success. Many of the best paying professions out there require a college degree to begin with.
It doesn't mean you can't be successful without it.
But I think generally, successful people have a very positive attitude towards learning, and college can provide that.
There are other kinds of experience that are valuable too. I question whether we need more MBAs in the world, for example. But be open to learning and education first, and then see if college is the right form of it for you.
If you have not yet gone to college, here is my advice: At a young age, it is more important to try a lot of things and to be well-rounded than it is to focus singlemindedly on a single track. Don't spend a fortune on college if you can help it. Do consider community college as a first step. At an older age, community college and extended education programs at universities are a great way for students to learn new skills and study various topics without having to commit to degree programs.
Always remember that learning is about WHAT you learn, and HOW you think, and discovering yourself and your abilities. The diploma at the end is just a piece of paper, a symbol of your achievement. Some people emphasize it too much, and get through college without learning, or enjoying enough.
I hope this helps. The money I spent on my California State University education was the best money spent of my life. :-)

It depends what you want out of life. But here is the general answer:
A college degree will bring you more money. More money, whether you're a money-lover or not, will definitely make your stay on Earth more comfortable.
Many believe that it is the "next step" for a young adult's life. And it probably is. College teaches you about dealing with the real world without checking in with mommy and daddy every day.
College can send you in many directions. Internships, job fairs, connections with people, hiring from job scouts, etc. Professors will probably have an impact on you and different campus activites may open new doors to you.
You could use these things. Use your extra money and extra experience to make a difference in the world. A great man once said that "you should be ashamed to die before you have won some victory for Humanity."
If you can do that without going to college, good for you. You are not alone (though nowadays, many employers require you to have some higher education).

Success depends on how you define it.
With so many kids going to college nowadays, it seems like college is the new high school. It really doesn't give you as much advantages as it did back in the day. As a matter of fact, most colleges and universities are nothing more than businesses seeking to get you tuition.
With that said however, it is true that a person with a college degree will have more work opportunities.
The success part (if you define it as a high paid job that you like) depends more on perhaps what college you go to, how hard you study, what you study, and the employment prospects afterward.

No, college is not a magic pill. If you are lazy, or have a bad personality, college isn't going to fix that. And there is always some question about whether it is that college creates success in the people who go there, or whether those who go to college are more prone to success to begin with. But study after study has shown an enormous difference (about $1 million) in lifetime earnings between those who graduate from college and those who do not. Again, that's an average, so there are always the Bill Gates' of the world who make a fortune without graduating, and the Ph.D.s who can't get or keep a job, but overall, there is clearly a major difference.

No, but on average, college educated people make more money during their life times. They also suffer less disease, have longer happier marriages, etc. However, I don't have a college degree. I make over 200 k / yr and have been married for 31 years. My daughter is receiving a PhD this coming May. I've lived in 7 different countries and have had a blast. On the other hand, I have been passed over for several promotions because of a lack of a college degree. So, NO, you don't have to have a college degree, but it does help.

No, it does not. You make yourself successful and college will provide you with the knowledge base and skill set to help.
On average college graduates get better jobs and make more money. On average. There are many exceptions, Bill Gates for example never finished college, and I have many friends who are making poor wages, some from Ivy League/Seven Sisters schools.
Will going to college make it easier to do well in life? Without a doubt.

No, formal education will not make you successful. You make youself successful, or you make yourself a failure.
However, there are solid statistics to back the claim that a college graduate will make more money, over a lifetime, than a non-graduate.
To say that "college" makes a person successful, or doesn't, is too generalized. Not all colleges are equal. A person with a degree from Harvard or MIT is much more likely to be successful than a person with a degree from a fourth-rate university.

college is actually a signal that future employers use to determine whether you'd be a good employee or not. basically what that means is if a potential boss sees that you have worked hard throughout college, attended classes, gotten good grades, etc he'll think that you'll be a committed, smart person to work with and that you'll be willing to take on the extra work in the professional world.
of course there are some professions that don't require college, but education is one of the best investments you can make.

No, you have to work to be successful. College just opens some doors to success that would otherwise be closed to you. Going to college is not a guaranteed key to success. You first of all have to pick a good major. Majoring in philosophy is probably not going to land you a good job. Pick something useful in the business world. (Business, Engineering, Computer Science). Next, getting one of these degrees doesn't guarantee success either. You need to make good grades and be involved in college. Also a bachelor's degree won't get you too far, you need a master's to get higher paying jobs. Finally, a college degree will only get your foot in the door. The key to success is working hard at your job. Going to college is just one of the first steps to success.

it helps u get higher paying jobs. it depends what u consider a successful life, some say its being rich while others say it just means being happy(and that could come from many things). if ur happy doing something u love like being an artist and not making alot of money, then u are successful.
