Yes and no. Caffeine is one of the substances that virtually all doctors and books will advise you to avoid or greatly limit during pregnancy. In addition to being a diuretic (meaning it will take fluid and calcium from both you and the baby), it can interfere with iron absorption and also exacerbate pregnacy mood swings. 5-6 cups a day can also cause a slight increase in miscarriage rate.

However, if you can't give it up completely, limiting your intake to 1-2 cups per day is considered acceptable (and remember that caffeine isn't just found in coffee). Be sure to slowly reduce your caffeine intake so that you don't have withdrawl symptoms, such as headache and irritability. And if you can do without the caffeine but still want the taste, you can always drink decaf!

There have been studies on caffeine and being pregnant and the do not know the effects but they do say that it should be out to drink the amount of 3 cups or coffee a day and that you should be fine...I know I drink coffee from Starbucks like once or twice a month and sweet tea 5 or 6 times a month...I think that as long as you don't make a habit of it or drink like 8 cups a day or drink alot of sodas and stuff you should be OK..

Depends on how much you drank pre-pregnancy. I was a coffee QUEEN!!! My doctor said to just cut it down and not drink my normal 1-2 pots! :P Despite what most people think, caffeine is like a drug and your body builds up a tolerance. For me, I need to drink at least two cups to keep my caffeine headaches to a minimum. I still drink the occasional pop or other caffeinated beverage as well. Like my dad always told me... "babies have been comin outta women for millions of years". Don't worry too much and enjoy your pregnancy!

If you are a coffee addict, I would try to cut back. Dont go 'cold turkey' because that will cause more stress on your body than the caffiene would. They say something like 1 or 2 regular cups per day. Im an Irish Tea drinker... and I had a similar situation with my pregnancy because the tea has more caffiene than coffee!!

Sure can, I just finished a nice cup myself. I keep it to two a day, you don't want to have too much obviously. Your Dr would let you know if you absolutely could not drink coffee, that would normally be in the case of high blood pressure or increased heart rate though. Enjoy.

I wouldn't drink more than two 9 oz cups a day. Actually, I probably wouldn't drink more than one. Caffiene isn't good for the baby. I drink one soda a day. Usually in the morning to ward off the sickness and to wake me up a bit. I don't feel comfortable drinking more than this.

Many people say that up to two cups a day is safe. However, I disagree.
The developing baby is not able to break down caffiene, and is very harmful for their developing systems. The question is whether or not you want to give your baby the best advantage possible? If you do, don't drink any.

I would say yes..............I have 4 children, I drank one to two cups a day and all my children are just fine. If you feel you need more then 2 cups, I would drink decaf. I also had soda on some days. (instead of a cup of coffee)

You should avoid caffein (coke, tea, coffee) so you will nap when you are tired. Especially in the first trimester, you will be sleepy a lot, and caffein will artificially wake you up, when what you need is to rest so your body can adjust to the new demands on it. A 20 minute power nap can be very effective.

it is not healthy for you to drink coffee at all, but if you do, you should limit your intake to no more than 2 cups per day.
