During the Spanish Civil War the execution of political opponets took place at dawn. Same thing happen in most of political executions (the case of the guerrilla fighters the British executed in what today is Palestina por example). I reckon there must be a reason for it, does anyone know it?

Most modern executions (In the United States, at least) take place just after midnight.

This is done because the "death warrant" or order of execution that was signed by the chief executive (usually the Governor of the state) is only good for one day.

Scheduling the Execution for just after midnight will allow for the widest possible margin of error should something occur to delay the execution for a bit (equipment malfunction, last minute appeal, etc.) without having to get a new order.
