My wife and son were both home at the time. He was at the front corner of our yard, almost to the street, and when I pulled in he turned and walked very fast to his house. Before I told my wife about it, she told me she heard noise at the front door and then the side of the house.

What should I do to make sure he knows that I will take extreme measures to protect my family? If he did try something and I caught him, how much can I do to him before the police arrive without going to prison myself?

To hopefully avoid any immature answer, he is very unattractive, I was gone for a few minutes, and my wife is not cheating.

Call the police out to come and talk with you and give you advice on what you can and cannot do. You don't want to overstep the bounds and then he turns around and sues you and takes your house from you. Have a cruiser out front and an officer in your house might do the trick. If not, get a restraining order.

Also, post No Trespassing signs and if you see him there, tell him he is not allowed on your property or you will have him arrested. Once warned you should be allowed to call the police and follow through.

Make sure you leave lights on outside every night or put in motion lights so if he comes over that way, they will automatically light up the area. Set the timer for 5 minutes and make sure they are high enough he can't unscrew them. If you have a two story home, put them just below the bedroom windows so you can change them from inside :)

Put timers on lights inside the house and be sure and keep drapes pulled at night. Mini-blinds are ok but people can still see through the little holes so I don't recommend them as the only window covering.

If you have a TV with a timer, set it to go off if you aren't home. You can also put a timer on a radio, just make sure no one can see inside the house anywhere to see if anyone is inside.

Have an officer from Community Relations at the PD come out and check all your windows and doors and tell you the best way to secure each one. If you have any sliding doors/windows, I'd see about getting them replaced as they are easier to break into.

Install deadbolt locks on each door. If there is glass in the door(s), do not buy the kind that has the knob to turn to unlock it and do not leave the key in the lock. Put a nail near the bottom of the door on the side where the doorknob is and keep the key down there for easy access for anyone inside in case of fire.

Might consider having an alarm system installed and make sure the family knows to turn it on once they get back inside the house. Too many use it just when they are gone.

Make sure all of you carry pepper spray with you, just in case you need it.

If I were you, I would call the police so they can take a report and talk to the guy. At least, there will be documentation on file so if anything happens in the future, the police will go after him first.

2. If I were you, I would buy a shotgun and teach the wife how to use it.

3. Install a security system.

4. Go tell the neighbor that you if you see him in your yard or close to your house, you will put your shotgun up his a** and blow his head off.

You could kill him if he got in the house, and you could go scare the crap out of him.

Contact the police and have them investigate the matter. If you saw the guy near the house and your wife heard someone at the door just moments earlier, there is a strong circumstantial case that the guy was trespassing (or more). He should know you mean business. He should also know that the police are now alerted to his strange behavior.

Just stand outside your house when he is walking around and give him a stern look. It worked for me.

If it doesn't confront him when you catch him sneaking around your yard.

Next step will be to put a security camera and catch and file a complaint with the PD with the proof.

Dude go over there and tell him not to **** around near your house. If that dosen't work tell the cops.Ask him what he was doing and gauge his response if he responds at all. But don't do anything violent cause that will get you into trouble.

I think you should approach him in a friendly manner, saying that, since you saw him near your home, you thought he might be looking for you, and is there something you can do for him. It would be a mistake to assume there's something nefarious here. Approaching him in a friendly way let's him know that you're not afraid to confront an issue.

you should first talk to the neighbor and ask him what he was doing, if you cant resolve it that way then you should go to the police and just file a complaint so that it is on record.
