Have you tried listening to him. Kids "act out" instead of talking about their problems. Anger is a way of him venting his frustration. Find out why he is angry. Then let him "vent" to you.

Buy and set up a full size punching bag! Exercise - frustration and man it feels good to hit. Also - on a personal note - I don't box but I run and scream into a pillow. Everyone handles their anger differently. You are being a great mom for worrying about his feelings.
PS - Boxing is an excellent concrete way for young men to learn how to discipline their energy.

You have to take this on faith, because you would not see it by itself. First, you need to separate his anger from his fear in his own mind.
If he does not have a brain disorder, then you have to find the threshold triggers that push him from frustration into a cascade of emotion which causes him to give in to the temptation of anger.
Reward him when he resists anger successfully, but do not set unrealistic goals, anger serves a basic purpose which must also be respected.

Teach him some control, things like when he feels his anger coming on, go to aroom by himself, and and take some deep breaths, and say to him self out loud, I can control my and anger a few times, and see if that helps him, if not go get help! From a professorial, person!

the first step would be to find the roots of his anger. if he's a teenager, it might just be teenage angst and he'll eventually grow out of it but i don't know how bad his anger is. just be careful because if you meddle (or be overprotective), it could produce negative results.
