The problem isn't that he smokes pot (althought that IS a problem). The problem is that you find this to be an acceptable life with him. You don't only allow all of this, but you allow his excuses (which is typical of drug abusers). Your description of him losing his job really DID seem to be his cause, not some story of someone else. Your husband did the wrong thing and seems to continue to do the wrong thing on a daily basis. Nothing you can say is going to be meaningful to him, because your actions have already shown him that you're willing to put up will all of this nonsense. He isn't going to take your words seriously, because you've shown him that what he does is acceptable. He needs help, but there's nothing you can do about insisting he get it. If he doesn't have a motivation to change, he simply won't. What you need to decide, is how much of this will you continue to take? Both of you would benefit by boundaries in your relationships. A zero tolerance for dope. A zero tolerance for smoking. No alcohol, things like that, whatever you two decide. It sounds like a lifetime of of this life that you're in for, because you've allowed it. When you're ready for change, you'll make the decisions you need to make for you and your children. Don't let "love" get in the way of doing the right thing.

No, sorry. I didn't realize he had quit. Guess he got tired of getting busted all the time. He was arrested again just a couple years ago but I'm not sure what happened.
