Your GPA and SAT or ACT scores will be most important for just about every college. Beyond that, it varies somewhat depending upon the mission of the school. Some will be most attracted to evidence that someone is into their academic field beyond the classroom. Some are most interested in community service or religious commitment. Others want a well-rounded student, or one who exhibits a particular passion in some extracurricular activity.

Ordered by approx. level of importance, some colleges vary.

1- Grades, level of classes, and standard test scores (SAT/ACT)
2- extracirriculars- sports, clubs, organizations
3- leadership- school government, head of a club, etc
4- volunteering
5- reference letters

Some schools also have entrance essays, but not all.
