What is your favorite knitting project for holiday gift-giving (to adults)? I'm talking about something that you can turn out pretty quickly, I have a lot of gifts to give, and it's almost September! Patterns are appreciated, but a description will work, also.

For the more senior of your recipients (or new brides, too) a handknit facecloth or wash cloth is a nice gift with a bar of fancy soap. Many of the folks on you list may also appreciate a nice dish cloth or two. http://www.jimsyldesign.com/~dishbout/kpatterns/knitting.html has lots of nice ones, and even the ones that look the most difficult really aren't.
You could also knit and felt some drink coasters too.
Outdoorsy types (and kids) always appreciate mittens or extra hats. Superwash wools will keep their warmth when wet and can be tossed in the washer and dryer as needed.
Scarves are still hot, too, but practical ones are most welcome.
Felted bags are good larger gifts, too.

I like doing dishcloths. I give them wrapped around something small that can make it more personal. For example, if I know my brother is a Texas Longhorns fan, I do one with the logo and because I know he won't use it as a dishcloth, wrap it around a bottle of Old Spice bodywash and he can use it as a washcloth.

Here in Australia we have been knitting bed socks, perfect for colder weather.
