The Maya Calendar ends on Dec. 12 of 2012. But it doesn't mean literally the "End of the World", "Armageddon" or "Doomsday". These 2012 prophesies are just manipulated theories made by highly institutionalized systems such as science, religious and philosophical sectors. Natural disasters such as earthquake, floods and tsunamis have been occurring for several years now, caused by the increasing power of the sun triggered by galactic alignment.
These sectors claimed that 2012 will be the end of days, simply because they deliberately misinterpreted the complete galactic alignment on this year. They believe that the sun will be powerful enough to possibly burn the entire planet. The other claim says an asteroid, which is powerful enough to destroy our planet will hit earth in 2012. However, according to the Astrological sector, the asteroid claim is only a possibility on or before 2024.
The Maya Calendar didn’t leave any specific or detailed events that will occur in 2012. It only left clues and puzzles such as symbols, old literatures of their religion and beliefs. And should we rationally or logically decode their clues, it only means end of something old and beginning of something new. It’s the age of enlightenment. Our consciousness about “Armageddon” or “Doomsday” commonly known by humans such as poverty, intercontinental wars caused by religion and political differences will end on this date. A new chapter of human evolution begins. 2012 will be the beginning of a new world full of wisdom, knowledge and power.

Are you sure that the Mayan Calendar is true to its findings? The end of the world depends:
It's possible that the world will come to an end if:
*we do not care for our world and let it get destroyed by human beings that torture it...
But, it's also possible that the world will live healthy even after the year 2012 if:
*we thank the Lord for what he has given us
*avoid harming mother nature
I believe that the Mayan Calendar is just a warning that if we are not careful, the world may come to an end...

The Mayan calendar does *not* say that the world will end in 2012. That year was nothing more to them than the end of their current calendar. It's possible that they could tell about the alignment of our sun with the galactic center to occur that year, but again they didn't foresee that as the end of the world. That same alignment has happened many times without destroying the world, the last time about 26,000 years ago.
The books currently on the market claiming that the Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world in 2012 are nothing more than idiotic drivel, totally and absolutely unsupported by any scientific evidence.

I say that it's not true.
The Mayan Long Count calendar doesn't "say" anything. And it doesn't end. It just counts days.
The so called "end date" of 12-21-2012 is actually the start of Baktun 13. After Baktun 20, the Pictuns begin--and that's several thousand years from now.
No ending of the calendar, no ending of the world.

Various people have been predicting the end of the world for thousands of years, many of them just as plausibly as this current Mayan stuff. But, strange to say, every single one of those predictions has failed, and the world is still here. So I'm not very worried about 2012.
Let me tell you something. Twenty years ago I was diagnosed with cancer, a malignant melanoma. I had it removed surgically, and the surgery was 100% successful. But it could just as easily have gone the other way, and my world could have ended in 1987. Instead, I've had a wonderful couple of decades: I've seen my son born and grow into a fine young man, I've travelled to many exciting places and had many exciting adventures. If I die tomorrow, I will still have had this wonderful 20 years, which I might have never lived to experience. So, if the world should end in 2012, along with me, I'll have had five more wonderful years. But I hope to live a lot longer than that, and I'm not going to let worrying about any long-dead Mayans interfere with my enjoyment of life!

I don't believe this either, I learned of this in my junior year of high school last year and I have been thinking about this for some time, there is no way the Mayans could know when the world is to end, becuase they don't know of the effects of the things we have done becuase this prediction was made a very long time ago, and these effects have only affected our time, not the past, when this prediction was made. But at the same time, they may have a point, they were one of the very first races to have ample understanding of time and astronomy, so I guess, to accurately answer this question, we will have to wait another 5 years.

The Mayans were very advanced for the time (2000+ years ago).
And the calendar doesn't say the world will end in 2012, it says that the current world cycle will end in 2012.
A world cycle is like a "world age" (we just entered the Age of Aquarius and that didn't result in the end of the world).
So I think its interesting, possibly worthy of study, but not a currently-accepted scientifically provable prediction of anything.

I don't think it's the end of the world. But until 2012 a large number of the world population will be wiped out due to wars and natural disasters.
After this big cleaning the new 'golden' age begins and it is said that it will last at least 1000 years.

The Mayan calendar almost certainly says nothing of the kind. Even if it did there is no reason for us to take any notice of it. The Jehovah's Witnesses have been predicting the end of the world for maybe 150 years and several ends have come and gone. Rushing up hills with a packet of sandwiches in one hand and a Bible in the other seems to be an American specialty and the rest of the world just laughs. In any case we Taureans don't believe in astrology.
