If x varies right away with y, there's a ok so as that x=yk. If x=40 8 whilst y=8, then ok=40 8/8=6 So whilst y=12, x=12*6=seventy two If x varies înversely with z^2, there's a p so as that x * z^2=p. If x=40 8 whilst z=3, p=40 8*3^2=40 8*9=432. whilst z=2, z^2=4 and x=p/4=108

y=kx/z is the expression you start with. Then plug in the know values to get:
-15=k (6/-2)=-3k
thus k=5

Hmm...
I hope I got this right...
y = kx / z
-15 = k(6) / (-2)
30 = k(6)
k = 5

y = kx / z
- 15 = 6k / - 2
- 15 = - 3k
- 15 / - 3 = k
5 = k
Answer: k is 5
Proof:
- 15 = 6(5) / - 2
- 15 = 30 / -2
- 15 = - 15

y = x/z
y = x direct variation
y = 1/z inverse variation
if an equation is not given then: y = k(x/z)
