Sorry, Mt. Davis is a big thing of seats that they put in center field where bleachers ($12) used to be. It ruins the what was a beautiful view of Oakland (mountains). It was put there because the snooty Raiders wanted more fans (they need 'em :-) ) It was named after Al Davis, the head coach at that time. Sorry again for making that unclear.

Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum used to be a rather nice park for baseball -- not perfect, but it was a relaxing place to take in a game, and the open outfield skyline invited in the city and countryside, such as it was.

Then Al Davis, the owner of the NFL Los Angeles Raiders, who had fled Oakland for LA some years earlier, decided to move back, but first extorted the city (in the usual team-owner tradition) into WANTING him back, and demanded that new seats be built to increase capacity (and more importantly, Al's income). Oakland city leaders caved and built this monstrosity seating bunker, unofficially nicknamed "Mt. Davis" in (dis)honor of Al, who really is a piece of work.

The charm that OACC had was utterly destroyed.

I'm sorry they're leaving Oakland, but I'm glad the Athletics are getting out of the ruined Coliseum.

1) For us less educated folks, what exactly is Mt Davis? And how do you build Mt Anything in a stadium?
2) I used to run into Fremont once a week for work. Building the new stadium there will increase the number of things to do in Fremont to 2 (if you include watching the paint dry in your hotel room as 1).
