I've got two answers for you :)
The 1st is what I believe to be a good place to figure things out.
The 2nd a more mundane way of looking at it.

1) I agree with your opinion on the subject.
If your interested in learning something about modern vampirism you should really check out this website.

2) In a somewhat scientific way:
We discover new species of animals all the time why can't it be that we just haven't "discovered" them yet.
It's not like they need or want to be thrust into the lime light.
So it could very well be that we don't see them because they don't want/need us to.
When I say them I mean not only vampires but all other sorts of supernatural paranormal beings.

There is always some truth in legends and myths. Vampires do exist. They are the undead that live off the blood of the living. If there's a God, Devil, Angels and Demons. Then why can't there be other supernatural beings. I know that Witches exist in today world. Check out the site below and read the book. I know you'll enjoy it.

Vampires don't exist in the way that legend has them. There have been people throughout history that have been accused of blood letting but no proof of the neck biting type who can live forever. There has been discussion that the reason that the legend exists is because people have such a thirst for youth. That that thirst represents blood lust. That that obsession has to do with wanting to look young and live forever.

Vampires are mythological or folkloric beings that subsist on human and/or animal lifeforce. In most cases, they are reanimated corpses who feed by draining and consuming the blood of living beings. In folklore, the term usually refers to the undead blood-drinking humans of Eastern European legends, but it is often applied to similar legendary creatures from other regions and cultures. The characteristics of vampires vary widely among these different traditions. Some cultures also have stories of non-human vampires, including real animals such as bats, dogs, spiders, and mythical creatures such as the chupacabra.
Vampires are a frequent subject of fictional books and films, although fictional vampires are often attributed traits distinct from those of folkloric vampires.
Vampirism is the practice of drinking blood from a person or animal. In folklore and popular culture, the term refers to a belief that one can gain supernatural powers by drinking human blood. The historical practice of vampirism can generally be considered a more specific and less commonly occurring form of cannibalism. The consumption of another's blood (or flesh) has been used as a tactic of psychological warfare intended to terrorize the enemy, and can be used to reflect various spiritual beliefs.
In zoology and botany, the term vampirism is used in reference to leeches, mosquitos, mistletoe, vampire bats, and other organisms that subsist on the bodily fluids of others[

There are some people who practice drinking blood, some even claim to be addicted to it.
But as far as I know there are no movie like vampires; like Dracula, or like Anne Rice's characters.
I've heard it said if you want to see a vampire, go to Cafe De Monde in New Orleans after midnight. That's where they like to hang out. That was before Katrina however.

The legend of Dracula is based on a real person. Vlad the Impaler. He was a fierce commander of his armies, and was known to drink the blood of his victims as well as impale them on their spears on the battle field. During one of his battles, an assassin from one of his enemies was able to kill his beloved wife. Upon his return from battle, he denounced god and swore to live as a creature until the time in which his wife was reincarnated and he could reconnect with her in human form. The beginning of Bram Stoker;s Dracula (the movie) actually tells this tale fairly well. As for whether vampires exist...I guess you need to ask someone from Transylvania...as they surely believe in them.

Well, I was born in Transylvania, the land of Dracula...the vampires? Nice invention in a Bram Stoker's novel that now is enhancing the tourism of the region...It's sad when we realize Santa doesn't really exists, huh...

Yes actually, they are. It isn't like the storybooks though. It is a genetic disease where the person can't produce some of the proteins that are necessary for life which are carried in blood. It can be treated with shots and diet supplements now, but couldn't be treated with anything other than the blood of people and animals a century ago.

yes and no.
no in the sense that all the "blood drinking" is a mundane cure for anemia.
yes in the fact that witch doctors in haiti would give individuals paralytics, then dig them up after they were buried. this is how the dead would walk.. or as it would appear. these "zombies" (not so much vampires, still the walking dead though) would have changes in their personalities due to brain damage from lack of oxygen.
