...are going to be able to stop a wartime President from defending his country and keeping things secret from the enemy??? USC this, blah blah blah that!! Might as well be a briefcase full of blank paper. Not even really smart lawyers can force us to surrender. ....I wonder how it feels to be obsolete?

Ahhhh... "Chirp chirp chirp", I see the lawyers really DO have everybody convinced they are running the show. What're they gonna do? Give the President a paper cut?

"ck4829" - Are you really that slow?? Exactly what form of communication do you suggest the President use to disclose national security secret to the American People?? TV?? Oops, our enemies have those too?? Newspapers? Oh, no, some of our enemies can actually read english. How 'bout he just pays a personal visit to each and every one of us and whispers in our ear??

And if we were actually at war, you might have a point. However, unless I missed it, Congress has not declared war on any country.
You may want to actually read the opinion in the Pentagon Papers case in which the U.S. Supreme Court stated the conditions under which the President could prevent the publication of "secret" documents.
The reality is that with us in a long struggle against criminal groups scattered around the globe, no President will be able to prevent leaks of information about constitutionally-questionable programs involved in that effort. The truth has a way of coming out.

Since when have we not been at war .
We are always at war like it or not and things will remain that way for a long time .
If you are not willing to defend what you have then others are more then happy to take it from you and tell you how to live .
So if you are unhappy then do something about it and stop arguing about insignificant politicians and lawyers .
They mean nothing unless people are willing to pass along all the responsibility for their live to someone else .
Its tragic to think that allowing others to control you and accepting what is handed you can make you happy .
Till you can go out into the world and conquer your fear of failure and realize that no one who has anything ever got it right the first time you will always feel as if someone else is pulling the strings .

"A bunch of lawyers" wrote our Constitution.
You might want to read Article 3. section 3, and, Article 2, section 4.
George W. Bush is PRECISELY what the framers of the constitution were trying to protect us from.
