Ghost (or people who died, but haven't had a spiritual cross over and are sticking around) return to what they know. So if a person was a druggie, or abuser, or in lots of mental pain before they died, they will linger.
Also, the same type of ghost love hanging around bars. Especailly dive bars. When someone is drunk, it gives them a chance to sometimes take a ride in this person to feel the high they can no longer feel since they aren't humans. Ever know a person who when sober is kind and nice, but when they get drunk, they throw things.... they may be slightly possessed.
This is why alcohol is refered to as "Spirits".

one theory suggest that ghosts are only recordings, not unlike a DVD and somehow their image and events get recorded in the environment. Just like a TV or Radio you have to be tuned into the right frequency to see it play (or maybe have the right equipment in your brain turned on).
The theory suggest that emotionally charged events do this more easily than those that are not. In other words the casual insult may get recorded over but the murder does not. This theory may also be why positive feelings are associated with spiritual and holy places.

I disagree with your question. Generally a ghost/Spirit is located around a spot where THEY were traumatized. I've seen many times where a ghost/spirit has helped to solve what happened to them. Places where alot of deaths have occured can create emotional energy with supports the Paranormal like a Civil War battle field.

I don't believe in 'ghosts' per se, but they don't "visit" areas of torment, they probably were who the murders happened to! They are most likely trapped there because of what happened in their lives. They need to know and accept what happened, for them to move on. Seances are said to help as they talk directly to the spirits and ask of their torment, therefore releasing the anxiety.

I think is because ghosts are, for the most part, troubled souls themselves. so they go to socialize with the ghosts that are places of torment, or maybe that's where they died or have people that in one or other way are related to them.

Yes because those who visit there are in a heightened state of awareness. If they are open enough they will experience the paranomal even though it is just in their mind. T4

Yes, it's because that is where we expect "ghosts" to be and therefore the power of suggestion working on our senses is strongest there.

I think when a person is murdered, they have unfinished business here and don't know that they've passed on! They re-visit the murder site often.

They just happen to be in places that have spooky backstories. It helps ghosties with their hallucinations if the haunted place is creepy.
