It all comes down to control over the means of production. A very unintelligent person can learn how to build a house, or mine lumber or metals and as such make a living for themselves. It is when an owner of the means to production (an investor, company etc) begins to suppress the worker and charge a profit for themselves when they have done nothing to deserve it that the worker becomes disadvantaged and forced into a type of slavery. Those with ownership of production are both the government and corporate america. They use different tactics to achieve the same goals. The government will imprison or kill you if you do not listen to them, and corporations will either withhold means to production or use the government to control you.

This isnt even to say that by and large the corporations are the government.

So your implications that the working classes have common enemies but tend to disagree on stupid matters is correct.

I thought it was the liberals who wanted to have the government in control, ie national health care, taxation, the Social Security system.

The conservatives want the corporations to be free for capitalism.

No matter what case though it is the elite that rules the day, whether their last name is Bush or Kennedy, they want to control the lives of Americans. Some people don't think their lives are under governmental or corporate control until you point out the things they buy are controlled by the corporations, and the amount of money they are allowed to keep from their hard work is controlled by the government.

The problem is both sides want to hand over this nation to the internationalists. Why else is there a super interstate in the beginning stages of construction in Texas. This super interstate will bring goods that are shipped from the cheap labor in China to the ports in Mexico, where it will be loaded onto trucks and driven through America to Canada. These internationalists have been working for a long time to destroy the United States, things like the Kyoto Treaty for instance would have cost the American taxpayers trillions of dollars in fines imposed by the world environmentalists for polluting this earth. When in reality there are nations like China that are far worse pollutors than America. American companies are expected to clean up the enviromental messes they make, from toxic spills to recovering the land after strip mining. While no one knows what is going on in China when it comes to protecting this earth from their industrial accidents.

Well I better get off the soap box before I get myself in trouble, it may be to late for that but, oh well, the truth hurts.

divide and conquer, it's been a popular strategy for centuries. Don't forget dividing us based on race, and religion.
This is all a sort of self fulfilling prophecy though because people still spend too much money on their transportation, buy up everything that gets put on tv and spend trillions of dollars a year to buy a lot of stuff from china rather than spend trillions of dollars a year to buy things that contribute the USA economy. We are begging for it and we get it.
I thought liberals wanted to tax corporations more so I dont' see how that is considered going unregulated. I also don't think liberals want more personal freedom while they continue to take freedoms away. Take for example the smoking bans and transfat bans, who would want to interfere in peoples lives like that? Seriously, I thought it was democrat agendas but I might be wrong.

I do not buy into this elite vs. people game because I do not fall into either group.

I am highly educated, but does that has not made me part of some elitist culture. I personally cannot stand when people try to label me as part of some elite when I might fit their description of elite, but do not belong to such an organization.

I am definitely not a member of the people as you question describes them because I have never bought into this group "Rabble" mentality.

I have got where I am in life based on my actions and hold no allegiance to any group other than my immediate family.

Conservatives want to regulate personal conduct, but generally not to regulate corporate conduct.

Liberals want personal freedom, but generally don't care if businesses get regulated or not.

And yes, in both cases, it's one group of people attempting to control another that's the problem.
