can a tractor battery that is a 12 volt negative (-) ground get jumped off by a regular car battery...the battery went dead and the tractor need to be moved

Yes 12 volt in tractor is 12 volt in car. Just make sure you connect positive to positive and negative to negative.

Yes - 12 volt is 12 volt - tractor batterys usually just have a smaller cold cranking amp/amperage rating then a car battery does ( takes more power to crank a car over then a lawntractor).

Yes, you can jumpstart a tractor battery with a car battery (as long as it's 12 volt). Most tractor batteries are wet so it would be a good idea to check the fluid levels and test it with a hydrometer.

Yes it is done all the time! Just a word of caution first though. Always connect the dead battery first. As a lead-acid battery discharges it produces Hydrogen-Sulfide Gas(very explosive stuff). By connecting the dead battery first you reduce the chances of creating a spark that may ignite the gas around the dead battery.

If the tractor battery is much larger, you might be putting too high a load on the smaller battery.
