How can I successfully put a 6 inch hole through a regular concrete roof tile to accomodate an air vent???
I have tried many ways which end up cracking the tile!

The best bit for cutting any concrete based product is a diamond bit. For a six inch hole, a core drill would work very well, but it would be way too expensive. Most diamond and carborundum bit are made for circular saws which cut straight lines well but not curves. For a roof vent, you should not need a perfectly clean hole, as the roof vent will hide the hole. So just use a masonry cutting wheel and cut a series of straight cut around the circle. This should work very well, it won't look very good, but when you put the metal flashing on, you won't see it.

You could try renting a concrete coring drill in a size that matches the vent.
