Thank you all for your input. I will use a fart chart this year, and have kids earn each day they do not fart out loud. I will remove a token when they do fart, and 2 if it stinks badly. Thank you.

THANKS for the comic relief (pun intended)and just when I thought I had been in >Teaching too long. Your question has been more than aptly answered above. I am sorry if I can't take your question too serioulsy, especially with the irony of your nickname. Best Wishes, Still LOL

I had a student last year that farted non-stop all day long on purpose. It was a huge distraction because he would do it at least 5-6 per class (I had him for 4 classes a day) and it smelled so bad that other kids would start moving away from him. He only did it to get a reaction from his classmates. One call to his parents informing them that he had a "gas problem" stopped the farts completely.

Also, I had a few kids who legitimately had a gas problem and we worked out a system of them being able to leave the class to relieve themselves, so that they didn't disturb the class.

You don't! I hope you are just kidding, because I hate some teachers, and then you came along and punnished me for farting, you would be on my: HATE WITH A PASSION list. If I was that student I honestly would skip that punishment!

I would punish the kids that react to it. Hopefully, if they are doing it to be funny, this would put a stop to it. My kids didn't react at all when someone farted or burped or whatever, so I didn't have any problems with it.

Call a parent-teacher conference, and proceed to fart in the parents' faces.

I think if you had and use your common sense you wouldn't be asking this question, if you think you're funny... you're NOT. But just in case you have lost your common sense...NOO you wouldn't punish a child for farting...if you continue being like this, your career as a teacher won't last or you'll be miserable....frankly I highly DOUBT you're a teacher.

If it is my Boys PE then I just laugh it off with the student. Guys and Guys. But in the class room I think the embarrassment is enough. Unless it was intentional, then I may get angry.

if it was on a purpose it would be inappropriate.ppl do make mistakes and cant hold them in but if he was just making farts to disrupted the class u should give him a warning if he does it again.

Give me a break!!! Even you fart, just ignore it or all of the students will do it purposely just to get under your skin.

Unless he did it on purpose, you honestly cant do anything, it's a bodily function in which forces your body to take action. Even if he did do it on purpose you still cant do anything, yet maybe a little "Would you like to be sent to the bathroom, and/ or the princible's office?"
