When you really think about it, Liberals came first, didn't they?
When America was a Brittish colony, it was liberal types who opposed the rule of a monarch thousands of miles away. It was a liberal ideology, a questioning of authority, and an anti-establishment way of thinking that made America what it was back then - and what it is today!
Liberals came before conservatives, when you really think about it. Had there been nothing but conservatives back then we would still be ruled by some guy in London to this very day.
Do you see my point?
Do you agree?

Okay, I have to admit that this was a bit of a 'baiting question'
For the record, I think there's nothing that sounds more simple minded than the profuse use of the words 'liberal' and 'conservative' - and each side accusing the other of being such.
Most Americans today fall into neither catagory. Meaning they often have beliefs that fall into both supposed camps.

Haven't so-called 'Liberals' started, fought, and won most of the wars in American history?

Yes, but it doesn't address all the issues.
In everything, there needs to be a balance.
Changed balanced against stability. Freedom balanced against the needs of the collective (society). Individuality balanced against tradition and common consensus.
Conservative and liberal are two ends of one spectrum. Either taken to the extreme results in imbalance. Both are needed for any human society to function.

Yes, it was liberalism that fostered our independence from Britain. "The Great Experiment" was the idea of the liberals of the day. The conservatives of then pleaded the liberals to be happy with the status quo. Didn't want to rock the boat, ya know? I think liberals get under conservatives craws because the right seems to be in the same complacent attitude about many of today's issues as the conservatives in Colonial times were.
The oxymoronic "poor Republicans" have always been a mystery to me, too. They have swallowed the lines of crappola spoon fed to them by moneyed interests and vote against having the best outcomes for themselves. Truly baffling.

Conservatives: This is good enough
Liberals: But it could be better
Liberals are right and conservatives in their own opinion are too. Yes the forefathers are liberals, as was FDR during the Great Depression and yes only liberals will improve the system because generally the conservatives are already fat and happy.

Another "great" thing about liberals is that they created, right after the Civil War, the 14th Amendment and purposely made the most crucial words of it (and I mean Section 1 in particular) very vague so that scholars and judges would spend the next 150-200 years wondering what in the heck does it mean.
(I'm being sarcast, btw.)

Of course, but the idio-cons won't agree...they'll just name call and blame Clinton for something...
Liberalism refers to a broad array of related ideas and theories of government that consider individual liberty to be the most important political goal...but the idio-cons won't have it...they'll say we're unpatriotic and communists and that we hate America...I find them quite funny at times...

I would question whether "liberals" as defined today bears any relationship to our founding fathers.
Yes, I give credit to liberals who did an enormous amount to improve our society, most of it in the late 1800's through 1950s or 1960s, when the private sector was failing to meet these needs.
However it seems since the 1960's, they've become unhinged and now advocate ridiculous ideas and want the gov't to do far too much. To my knowledge, no country has ever taxed itself into prosperity.
