I find it strange that people are saying how they can't stand being PC. Ok, but what exactly does PC mean? Do you even know?

For instance, someone makes a racist comment, which they say is "just the truth." You get offended and wonder why they feel so comfortable saying these things. Well, they're just "so not into being PC." What?

You do realize that by making these comments or observations are you like to call them, you ARE being PC, don't you? Politics is all about being unfair remember?

So when you make an unfair comment, not caring if it offends anyone, or if it's a generalization or not, you are acting just like a typical member of congress. Technically, you are very PC.

Are some people using the PC card to excuse any crappy things they say?

Ok yeah, I definitely understand what your saying. But what I'm wondering is if we're trying so hard to NOT to be PC, that many people just become jerks? Not that they weren't jerks before...but if being non-PC is supposed to be the way now, will we see people going overboard with it? Offending people right and left and not giving a...crap...about anyone else? I thought trying to create more unity was our goal...not separating ourselves further by constantly berating each other and saying "well, I'm not PC, so deal with it..."

All I'm saying is that people say some messed up things already. But one thing that helps is when other people who hear them say it let the person know that it was messed up...maybe with a look or maybe by speaking up. I think that keeps some people from blurting out their rude...um, crap, anytime, anyplace. Freedom of speech, yes, but what about freedom from having to hear that mess when you didn't ask for it?

PC/non-PC seems too black & white...

To the third answerer with the music notes: I read that...does this mean I should be ok with someone calling me a n*****? Because it's based on truth????? And if really don't think a white person can tell me not to let that bother me just because they are ok with being called whitie....who cares about being called whitie when you're on top anyway and have been on top for centuries. But being called a n***** might do some damage when you think of your grandmother who couldn't use the white people's bathroom at the park....

Like I said, too black & white. There's plenty to consider here, but maybe it's easier for people just to not give it any thought...

I know what pc means. It means behaving in a manner that the majority of society feels comfortable with, so as not to hurt anyones feelings.
The bottom line for me is, if a comment is rude, disrespectful, racist, or sexist, it's wrong. And it does make me uncomfortable. Not because it's not pc but because it's wrong.

Politeness is one thing, PC is another. I have never intentionally been impolite to anyone who was being polite to me. I do not subscribe to PC, nor will I ever. I will continue to be polite out of respect for my fellow man - not because some liberal cream-puff dictates it. If I think affirmative action or illegal immigration is destructive, that's what I am going to say without regard to how it is perceived because I know it is based upon principle, not race. If someone has a problem with it, or gets their feelings hurt, it's their problem - not mine. PC not only dictates certain words be banned, but certain thought processes be abandoned. My free speech (and thought) will not be abridged. Please re-read my second sentence. Thank you.

Because it dilutes the language. Several examples abound. It's not "voluntary interruption of pregancy". It's abortion. It's not "products of conception". It's a fetus. The English language is a rich one. It has words which can stir the emotions and (dare I say it) even rouse people to revolutionary ideas and activities. So, to call someone an "undocumented worker", when that person is an illegal alien, softens the language and turns it into verbal pablum. And I detest pablum!

i don't care about being pc, because i have the right to say what i want when i want. i am not obnoxious or anything but i feel that i should be able to express myself w/ out being told that i am offending someone. people get offended by everything so the only real way to avoid it is to say nothing at all, and i love to talk so that won't work.

for example, i was in my sociology class this past year and i said that people should learn english when they come to america, especially of they want to work or get gov't benefits. because my dad came to america and learned english and now he owns his own company and no citizen of the US had to pay for a translator for him, because before he learned english he would have his friend who had been here longer translate for him in french. and i think this is the way it should be done. then all of these spanish people started talking about how they should have to learn english, and they starting yelling at me, because i said that i don't feel like i should have to learn spanish in order to talk to people that immigrated here, because if i moved to their country then i would have to learn their language, so they should do the same. now i don't see anything wrong w/ what i said. but according to everyone else it wasn't pc, so i was wrong, i just don't get it. and it isn't my fault that it is the truth

The Juan William tale is very instructive. Juan became fired from nationwide Public television merely because of the fact he noted his emotions of hassle while adult men in Islamic gown get on an airliner. How with out postpone we forget the Islamist terrorists who used 3 airliners as people bombs, yelling "Allahu Akbar" as they sent 3000 harmless individuals to their deaths. Christianity is seen greater and greater as no longer in ordinary terms politically incorrect, yet in addition bigoted and hateful. yet, Christians persist in giving Christ's perspectives of homosexuality and abortion. Jesus mentioned we are blessed while adult men revile us and hate us for his sake. Cheers, Bruce

Because dancing around with your words to try NOT to offend a single living creature is ridiculous.
Sometimes, feelings get hurt.
I try to be polite to everyone, but it gets so sickening to hear people NOT say what is on their minds for fear someone will maybe possibly get his/her feelings hurt.
Censorship is absolutely ridiculous.

Being PC was a phrase coined back when we believed special interests were poor people and Lobbyists were everyones friend. That you believe Politicians are the enemy says your a Anachist, and harken to Warlord rule. eeewww.

It's because political correctness is stupid. It's just a way of people censoring themselves so they won't hurt other people's feelings. That's really all that political correctness is.But only White people are forced to be p.c.It's okay for black rappers to call women bi+ches & hoes. But Don Imus got fired from his radio & t.v. shows for calling a woman's college basketball team a bunch of nappy headed hoes.
