I read about this baby that was born at 27 weeks and weighed less than one pound. She was born in January and is now very healthy. I thought this was crazy. Aren't abortions legal that late in some states?

I found a site which is a directory for late term abortion clinics. One clinic in Colorado claims to offer medically indicated abortions up to 36 weeks. If its medically indicated, can't they just induce labor?

It depends on the state -- states may regulate abortions as long as they meet the "undue burden" standard set forth by the Supreme Court in Casey.

Roe v. Wade is where the court set forth a trimsester-based apporach, but Roe was partially overturned by Planned Parenthood v. Casey in 1992.

I haven't seen any numbers on this, but I would be willing to bet that 95%+ abortions are performed just out of sheer convenience for the mother of the baby. She just didn't want that child. Abortion is just another form of birth control. I can't stand the arguments about "what if this, what if that." How many times do those "worse case scenarios" occur and that's the reason for abortion? The emotional/mental health thing is a crock. Plenty of sick Drs. out there willing to "diagnose" a women as incompetent to raise a child. Why not adopt out? Oh, suddenly we "care" about the child. Don't want to think of them being potentially placed with bad people. Let's just kill them instead. What if we started adopting those ideas with the elderly? Let's euthanize them so they don't get placed in a bad nursing home. Just because someone is breathing oxygen doesn't make them more human than a baby inside the mother's uterus. I know there are times when a women is faced with making the choice of abortion or possibly dying herself. I understand that. I can't say what I would do in that situation. I do know that, during pregnancy, I refuse all tests that are performed to indicate handicaps in the baby. I ask my Dr., if I get a positive for a handicap, is there any intervention to help the child? If not, why do I need the test? God doesn't make mistakes. I delivered a stillborn at 32 weeks. My husband and I held our baby girl. We spoke to her and told her how much we lover her. She has a name and a place in our hearts forever. I am thankful for the time we shared. I can't imagine someone throwing that away. It is tough in any situation to have a child, but it's done all the time. Why can some women successfully raise a child with less than desirable home lives? I guess there are strong women out there willing to make sacrifices for their child and do the best they can. Elective abortion is for the selfish and weak. Thankfully for theses women, I'm not the one they will answer to. Looks like I needed to vent a little too. Oh yeah, I do believe in forgiveness for people who have made bad choices... I know I have made plenty. We just have to want it and ask God for it.

Weather or not it's legal really isn't the issue? Here is my opinion about abortion, an unborn fetus is a life. At two months you can go to the doctor's office and you can hear the heart beat of the unborn child. If it isn't yet a life then why does it grow, develope and have a heart beat? Abortion should be illegal everywhere at any trimester because it is murder.

I don't think you can have an abortion after 24 weeks...and I thought that was the law for ALL the states?

Eh. I think it should be illegal at any time but that's just me.

Edit:
WOW! 36 weeks?! That's ridiculous. A baby could easily survive weeks before that...my God that's horrible =(
