I have. I even have a copy next to my computer on this desk. The Constitution is meant to create a Federal government and to task that Federal government with several important chores: To carry out certain enumerated powers and, in exchange or that power, guarantee each state a republican form of government and guard the states against invasion. By adhering to that purpose we secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.
P.S. : I'm sure there will be other responders who go ballistic over the word "republican". It does not denote a certain party. It denotes a form of government.

I've never read the entire thing front to back. I tend to focus on "clauses."
Four purposes, the way I see it.
1) To authorize the federal government to exist.
2) To dictate it's structure.
3) To delegate to it it's powers.
4) To provide some rules about what the state governments may not do.

Have read and taught the Constitution. It's original intent was to lay the groundwork for the running of the country. Unfortunately, the current administration feels it's purpose would be better suited if the paper it was written on was used for toilet paper.

I have read the American Constitution and a number of foreign constitutions. There is no foreign constitution that compares to the American Constitution for a simple reason: The American Constitution is designed to limit the powers of the federal government and has been somewhat successful at achieving this goal considering our government is one of the smallest on a per capita basis in the world. I think the founders would have wanted government to be smaller, but when compared to most foreign governments, we are closer to their ideal.

Its purpose is to establish a basic guideline for the country,to enumerate those powers granted to the government, and to in some ways place limitations on the power of the government as well.
As for whether I've read it or not,I have a laminated copy in my briefcase.

I've read it more than 5 times.
It purpose is how a government should be run, and the morals as a country we should abide by.
Sadly, lots of the things written in the constitution are being over-looked nowadays.

It was intended to protect us- the people- from the government and big business. It has been perverted by fifty plus years of socialism, and relegated to a "historical document". It no longer has any power, since socialists in the judiciary have seized power that does not belong to them, and congress and the exucitive branch have allowed it ti happen.
Is there a solution? Same one America used against England when she grabbed unfair powers- full scale armed revolution. Does America still have enough men willing to stand on their own two feet and oppose socialist oppression? I doubt it.

I have a copy of it right here on my desk.
The purpose of the constitution is to tell government what it can NOT do.
That is what the brilliant authors had in mind.
Such a simple, yet ellegant document.

I have read it many times.
It's purpose is to define the duties and rights of the government and the rights of the citizens who live under it.
