Chip as much as possible of the gunk out.
Try solvents, carbon Tet, (nail polish remover), is the best bet, paint thiner second.
If they fail, try gel type paint remover.
**Caution: This stuff disolves skin on contact.
Use out of doors. Avoid the fumes***

Something similar happened (with an iron) and after trying other ways, which did not work, I finally used a SOS, steel wool , It removed the problem. (Don't try to press a graduation gown)

First off, let me say that that's a hilarious question.
Secondly... I can't really think of any solution other than prying it off with a screwdriver or a chisel or something.

burn it off. then scrub off the soot with a brillo pad.
