A friend of mine is having her birthday today and she has to spend it by herself at work. I know next to nothing about Judaism- is there something I can do to help her enjoy her birthday?

Judaism doesn't really have anything special to say about birthdays (other than the 13th for boys and the 12th for girls). So Jewish birthday celebrations have been taken directly from the surrounding culture, and consist of the familiar cake-and-balloons type celebrations.
If you buy your friend a treat, it should be kosher. Kosher foods have little symbols somewhere on the package- here is a list of the most common: http://www.yrm.org/koshersymbols.htm . Make sure the original box/bag is still sealed shut when you give it to your friend. If you need plates and forks, buy plastic or paper.
Whatever you do, I'm sure your friend will appreciate the effort.

I would suggest going to a card store and trying to get a funny Jewish birthday card; other than that, just wish her happy birthday and take her to lunch!

Jews celebrate their birthdays just like everyone else...just make sure you dont put bacon grease in the cake! ;)

Seriously, just get her a cake and send some balloons or something.
