Some people have low self-esteem so it is not really being intimidated by others, but being intimidated by themselves. If someone is confident in who they are, then they do not worry what anyone says or does.

It's a good question and one I've been pondering for a long time. I guess it comes down to a controller and a controllee. We are one or the other.

Because sometimes when you see someone who puts on a happy face, it reinforces all the doubts you have about yoruself. It's all about the other person-nothing to do with you.

I think it's all in their heads because they are concentrating on that person's image which is usually just a big front.
