Try this one on for size. Try going a whole week with out saying not one single negative statement, Do not criticize, do not demean, do not complain, do not belittle, do not whine, do not swear. Instead of saying something negative when you realize you are about to, try saying something positive, uplift, encourage, promote, forgive, love, tolerate, have patients, overlook the petty. This will do yourself and those around you a world of good.

It depends on the person. People appreciate different things. I try to do something nice for someone at least once a day.
