What do you think? Would that be a hindrance or a help? Contribute to confusion or clarity?
What genres do you suggest they break out, if any? (Classics, Teen, Romance, Horror, Mystery, Science Fiction, Harry Potter's own section or include with Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Children's, etc.)

It's hard to pick a best answer to this question, because everyone's opinion is equally valid.
My personal preference would be to divide "Books & Authors" into several sections. Judging from the answers, some people would like that, and some wouldn't, which is pretty normal.
Rousseau l, your answer made me laugh. You're second-runner up just for that. A lot of people expressed their opinions very well; thank you, everybody! It was interesting to read all your opinions.
I personally wouldn't choose to make a special Harry Potter section; I would categorize those as "Science Fiction & Fantasy." I think the questions on HP will die down after awhile (if God has mercy!). ;-D

I would give Harry Potter his own section, I think we all know why. :)
I would also make a sub-category about just Writing.
Apart from that, no change. But thanks for the question! :)

If they had to break Books and Authors out to many types of Genres, they'd have to do the same with everything else, like movies, TV shows, music, art, and pretty much everything else, because every subject has different genres and types. So, I think it would be a hindrance, as it would be hard to locate books (and certain genres for any other subject) of different genres, and such. I don't like just one genre, anyways. For the people who say that there were too many Harry Potter questions after the last book came out, they're slowing down, and that will happen when a flood of questions about one thing come out at once. I mean, I see a bunch of questions relating to Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse, by Stephenie Meyer, but they're going to slow down, aren't they? Yes. It would make Yahoo! Answers pretty messy, if you think about it. And having to go from one subject to a sub-subject, to another, and so on....
Maybe having a Teen, Adult, and Kids section would be good for certain subjects, like music, TV, movies, and books. But beyond that, definitely not. There is a search option for those who want to find certain questions about certain genres or books or authors. Just type in that key word or phrase or question, and you'll get what you need. If you don't, ask the question. Not that hard.

I like it how it is now. But maybe there should be a section just for Harry Potter, because when the last book came out, there were way too many questions related to it. And there are people (not me, of course, as I am a HP fan) that were getting annoyed with so many questions about the book and a whole lot of spoilers.
Anyway, I don't know, just the way it it, in my opinion, it's just fine.

I read a lot of genres. In each one I usually have a real favorite. What I have been doing when answering questions about best book read, I myself try to divide my lists into the different genres. But dividing Book and Authors into different genres would be great help to the Answer as well as the Questioner. Your idea has a great deal of merit to it. They do it for other topics. Look at Sports and Travel. Maybe doing the same for History and Military would be good too. But I don't want to get carried away (especially by those guys in the white coats that tie behind your back.)

Yes, it would be a good idea to divide it into categories. I would do Historical and Biography in addition to what you mentioned. I would give Harry Potter a whole category on the big list. There are just so many HP questions. Then maybe as a subcategory you could do books, movies, characters.....

I think that it MIGHT be useful, ... but not really all that much. I think most people in this section usually roam across many genres, and to split Books & Authors would be a bit inconvienent.
Maybe, if it does ever break up, they should create a separate Children's & Teen section. That's really the only separate category that I can see as being helpful.

I absolutely think dividing books and authors into genres would be a huge bonus. Most readers are die-hard genre lovers. I believe most like to try out new authors, to see what new and exciting elements a new author may bring to their favorite genre. I know I do. Having a detailed list would make the search easier for readers. And would help new authors break into the cycle.

At least put Mr. Potter in his own category, then I don't have to sift through them to get to the questions that I am interested in.
Don't thumbs down on me. I love Harry too, but I don't feel like I have to discuss him to death.
