The 14K means that it is 14 parts gold and 10 parts some other metal or metals. Pure gold is 24 Karat. The other metals are to make it harde as gold is too soft for a ring in its pure form. Many metals are used in gold alloys. The value other than the gold depends on how fancy the piece is and the quality of the craftsmanship.
Should have also said that the initials are the manufacturerers name and usualy an indicator that the gold is really of the grade marked. Who wants to put their name on a fake? I did a web search but could not find AJR as a jewler, sorry.
