It's possible that within the next 2 years the Patriots will break their own consecutive win record (they hold the record for consecutive wins, but it isn't officially recognized), and surpass the "official" Dolphin record. After that, it'll be a long wait before the next chance.
Edit:Shaken Bake, I disagree. Patriots do not bench players, unless they've been playing hurt.

It is not likely.
The regular season now has more games than when the 1972 Dolphins played.
Seems like the playoffs have a different format too. In 1972 there were not any wild card playoff teams (if memory serves).
With more teams and more games, probably won't happen.

The '84 49ers came damn close with being 18-1, I think it could happen. The Colts came close a couple of years ago. I think it's actually inevitable and just a matter of time.
These people saying that the team will rest its starters are probably right, but what they're not considering is the possibility that the last game or two of the season could be against teams that were poor, meaning their back ups could possibly beat the starters.
Not only that, but it isn't every coach's philosophy to rest starters before the playoffs, especially if there were a chance at making history. And like I said, I think it's only a matter of time, the odds are simply for it.

Yes I believe there will be some other team that will accomplish this feat (assuming they don't add games to season). It probably wont be any time soon, but it will happen. I think when it happens it will be a team that no one ever expected and will have a 1st time starting QB (think Rams 99, with Warner). That season Green was supposed to start and 8 wins was the best they could hope for!
I think a team that some think have the chance (85 Bears, 98 Broncos etc) will never do it. There opponents will come with there A+ games and someone will get em!

No, it won't happen. In the NFL now, all playoff teams bench their star players during the last week, or sometimes last two weeks of the season. This is because every player and coach in the NFL knows that a super bowl is more important than a perfect season and do not want to risk injury before the playoffs.

I will go out on a lim and say 'yes.' The Colts won like their first 13 games a couple years back and also, remember when the Vikings were good and they were 15-1? I'm not sure what team is actually going to do it, or if any time soon, but 'yes' there will be another undefeated team... then they're going to lose in the playoffs lol...

I do have faith that even though it may be stressful for any team to end this with the longer seasons and style of powerhouse communities available, yet imnot asserting that it may be impossible for any team to end at sixteen-0 and bypass undefeated into playoffs. IF a team did take place to bypass undefeated into the playoffs then the subsequent question could be might desire to that team proceed to the Superbowl and win? grew to become into your question for in simple terms primary season or each and every of the with the aid of to the Superbowl because of the fact i do have faith that the seventy two dolphins misplaced the championship game yet i might desire to be incorrect. i think of that once the dolphins did it the primary season grew to become into purely 14 video games so any team that has a fifteen-0 initiate could certainly beat that checklist, appropriate? besides the undeniable fact that if given the archives of the 06 season if any communities might desire to do it i could might desire to assert Ravens, Chargers, Colts, or Patriots are the main in all likelihood communities to end this for the 07 season

Not likely, because back then there were only 14 games and there are 16 games now (in the regular season). Plus, the salary cap is more of a problem for players to stay on one team. So no, I don't think so.

I would like to see it happen, but I don't think it will because there is a big difference between the 1972 rules and the 2007 rules. Teams will get close but not make it. Go Steelers.

no.. the league has drastically changed since 1972.. Salary Cap is the biggest difference.. it creates parity in the league so instead of a bunch of loser teams out there and a few good ones.. there's a bunch of good ones and a couple slightly better ones... and they've lengthened the season.. 16 games in a row just reg season then the playoffs.. 20 wins most likely required..

No. The salary cap and free agency makes it almost impossible. The Colts came close. But remember the Dolphins won ALL their games. Not just the regular season
