I had a kid in my daycare class named Mitchell. He was 2 years old in 1998. I don't hear it everywhere, so I think it's one of those "medium names" that walks the line between common and unique perfectly.

I've included links to popularity charts, percentages, etc. that let you see for yourself. Best of luck!

I don't think it's popular at all. I have never met anyone with the name and I worked at a daycare. I did know a boy with the last name Mitchell. It was #275 on the ssa.gov top 1000 list last year. There were only about 1,200 boys named Mitchell in 2006. And it's decreasing in popularity and has been for about 13 years. So next year it will probably be lower. I say go for it if you like it. He probably won't end up with anybody else in his classes with the same name.

I know atleast 2 personally and I've heard it used by others. I LOVE the name Mitchell. Mitchell is cute for a little boy and then Mitch is good when he gets older, for a man.

I wouldn't say that it's necessarily popular, but it's certainly not unheard of and is a great name.

All of those things depend upon how old you and the people you know are. I knew someone in high school named Mitch, which was short for Mitchell. Of the almost 4,000 students I've taught, though, I've never had one named Mitchell.

Mitchell may not be a name in common use, but who wants to use a name that 5 other kids in his class are going to have (like Aiden or Cody). If you like Mitchell, go with it.

I went to high school with a guy named Mitchell. Im 24 so it wasnt that long ago.

I know that if my aunt had been a boy, she would have been named Mitchell. (my dad and his siblings are Montgomery (My dad, goes by Monty), Marshall, Marlon, Marcile (goes by Marci), and Charles....I still havent figured out where that came from :P)

I like that name. My family (myself included) seem to have a thing for boy's names that are typically lastnames, though (Marshall, Montgomery, Russell, Owen, etc)
