Maybe they just don't know how to be a friend. I would look at one who tries to make others jealous as insecurity. But also understand when people do this type of thing, are you truly happy for them or does it make you jealous? Some people do these types of things to gain acceptance or to feel like they are somebody. Maybe they need this type of gratification. Give it to them. When you get to a point that you can honestly give someone what they need and see the good it does and not take yourself into consideration in the issue, you grow as an individual. Just a part of maturity. Not maturity with age, but growing as a person and knowing who you are. If it gets to a point they are disrespecting you, then take yourself out of the situation. You can't change people, but you can lead by example.

I would call them jealous. People who think they have it better than you don't shove it in your face. I have had friends like that and it is always a competition. No matter how nice you are to them they still feel the need to put you down to give themselves a boost. Many people feel that the easiest way to deal with it is to just go along with it, but it will not resolve anything. Every so often, give out a couple of compliments, but never let them make you feel bad about yourself. If it gets to much then take a break from them.

How could you remotely think of them as friends. friends actually care if you are OK they are there for you through thick and thin. I think you are making a very often made mistake of confusing acquaintances for friends. My friends think its funny when i say I have loads of acquaintances but only a couple of friends. It's 2 friends and trust me that's plenty. Lott's of people think I'm their friend but they are mistaken.

I would call them 'NOT MY FRIENDS'. Friends don't do things that are hurtful. They lied and did things maliciously to make you jealous. I suggest you leave them alone, and find real friends.
