The answer to your question is yes.I have taught lessons on saxophone, flute, and clarinet at many age levels. No matter how old you are or even how much talent you have, any instrument is hard to play, If they weren't, many more people would be playing them and studio musicians wouldn't be getting payed over $100 an hour. All instruments are hard to master. Some instruments are easier to start out on like piano, guitar or drums. Not to say that they are easier instruments, they just don't require as much muscle development since the instrument produces the sound as apposed to the air and facial tension needed to produce the sound for wind instruments. I'm not trying to discourage you. Just letting you know that playing a wind instrument requires a bit more patience than other instruments. It does take most people years to develop a "good" sound and does require practicing more than a couple of times a week to get it. If you love the sound of the instrument then give it a try, just be patient. Most high school level kids forget that it has taken them 3 to 6 years to sound the way they do now,

I think the saxophone is a great instrument to start off on.
I'm going to be entering my freshman year of college, and I've been playing musical instruments for 8 years now. I started with the clarinet, moved on the tenor saxophone, played trumpet for a little while in marching band, and then bought an alto sax (I'm not saying you should do this too; I'm just giving you a background). But the saxophones are by far my favorite instrument to play.
I would recommend renting a beginner level saxophone and start taking lessons. You can rent a saxophone at pretty much any music store. Try it out for at least a year and see if you have the musical ability and desire to play further.
Be patient. It takes a lot of time to get the hang of playing your first instrument, which is why I said give it a year, but once you get the basic techniques, there's so much more you can do. You can play classical music, jazz, funk, almost anything you want! It's such a fun instrument to play! Just stick with it, and good luck!

I have been playing the alto since the 4th grade and I just switched over to bari my last yr of high school and I think that the sax is not hard to play. the hard part is staying committed, determine and focus.
P.S.if you start your lessons please be willing to learn and take the advice of your instructor when he/she tells you what to practice on just do it you really don't want to waste their time as well as yours. Good Luck!!

I think any instrument is difficult if you just don't have the natural talent. My bf plays trumpet, has taught himself the keyboard, and has taught sax. He says once you get the basics and with practice, you should be fine.
