Yes, your laptop only has 1 drive (C:) reinstalling windows automatically reformats the drive it is being installed on. If you only have one storage drive(C:) you'll probably have to put all your music, pics and video on another storage device. like a memory card or back it up on a regular CD, DVDs more complicated to store media files, they're only good with program data. CD's will let you put anything on them without having to use another program like Nero.

Depends on where you put the files...as long as they are on the c: drive and not in the windows folders but as always back up the files on another drive. Doing a restore wont erase everything doing a reformat will tho.

Yes, you need to back your files up before wiping out your whole HDD. At least, if you want to. No files will be retained if you do a wipeout. Besides, it's a generally good thing to back-up -- make it your habit. It's all for the good. :)

first, i need know which disc is your system disc and where you save stuff.if there are in different disc,you don't have to back up before reinstall operating system,other case you need to back up stuff in your system disc only. you can try it.
