and millions of other life forms in pairs on Noah's boat which was not overly large by today's standards?

A theory is that only Noah's (known) world was flooded, not the entire earth as we know it. For example, if I think my neighborhood is the whole world, I could build a boat big enough to save me, my dogs, and the neighbor's daughter.

There are two possible answers that do not contradict the Bible:
1. There were two snakes total. After landing, these snakes developed into all the varieties that we have now. The same with two dogs, two cats, two bugs, etc. For those animals that would be needed immediately, that species had already been generated (there were two types of birds sent out by Noah). That cuts down the size needed for the ark.

2. If G-d wills it, the inside of the ark can be a lot bigger than the outside. What was needed was for Noah to have the faith to build the ark. G-d then makes it work. We see this in other Biblical situations. The Red Sea (Actual translation is Sea of Reeds) did not part until one faithful individual strode out into it. The Temple in Jerusalem is built with modest dimensions on the outside, yet it held the entire Nation of Israel three times a year.

I think the general answer is everything on the boat was a baby. So miraculously all the baby eggs and stuff were carried onto it.
