1. If this is a Windows password:

Do you have access to a computer with a CD burner? If so, download the ".iso" image of the Ultimate Boot CD, from

http://www.grab-me.de/public/ubcd411.iso

You will need to burn this ISO image to a CD. If you do not, or do not know if you do, have a program that can do this, download ImgBurn from

http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

After you burn the CD, put it in the old computer, enter BIOS, make sure that the CD is the first boot device, save the settings, and reboot. (send me a message if you have trouble here) After you reboot, you will see a small screen that says something like:

Welcome to the Ultimate Boot CD!

Press enter. Go to Filesystem tools, hit enter, go to (I think, its been a while) NTFS tools, hit enter, go to "Offline NT Password and Registry Editor, and hit enter. You will see DOS, a lot of words, and some message boxes asking you questions. Just hit enter, or wait a few seconds on each of them.

Finally, the program will load. Follow the instructions on this page as best as you can

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html

and hopefully you will be able to access Windows. Sorry if this seems overly complicated.

2. If it is a BIOS password.

You will have to remove the cover of your computer. If you are lucky, there will be a diagram of all the things on the motherboard. Locate the"BIOS memory" or "CMOS configuration" jumper (a small piece of plastic, usually black or blue). If it doesn't have a chart, you may still be able to fund it by reading the small boxes often located on the motherboard. Remove the jumper, wait approximately 30 seconds, and then put it back on.

On some computers, you will see a small, round battery, about the size of a quarter. You can remove this for 30 seconds and replace it also. This is also simpler.

For about 5-8.00 you can buy a password recovery disk on Ebay that will recover Win NT, 2000 and XP passwords. It is very easy to use. There are also a few websites that offer this software Often more that 20.00. This software runs on a bootable disk and takes about 4-5 minutes to recover a password

you need to contact the person you bought it from to get the password. Then you can change it to your own password. Or you can reformat if you know someone who knows how to do it. Install the latest version of Windows (not vista) XP is good.

Try going back to where you bought the computer and ask them for the password.

I doubt you'll have much luck sorry. A fresh install of the os is in order.
