Reformatting doesn't hurt anything, but usually is total overkill. Anyone that does it 10 times in a month is nuts. What you need to evaluate is your personal surfing habits. You are obviously downloading things that are causing you problems. Do you have a virus scanner? What about spyware protection? If you do things right, I'd say you should be able to go a long, long time...years, without reformatting.

If you have a good virus program, and Spam and Malware software you shouldn't need to reformat your Harddrive unless you are doing something you shouldn't be doing.
I have a Pc that I have never had to re-format, simply by keeping the mentioned software up to date and run it often.

Frequent reformat is bad for your files (you lose them) and waste a lot of time. Win XP repair woul be better. OR you could consider another browser like Mozilla's Firefox.

yes downloading everything is a rather bad thing, but no reformatting is not bad if done more than once a month, you may lose a few mb though.

No, I've done it about 10 times in a month.
