That really is a hard question to answer. The media is in the business to tell us the news so I think were there might be a end to a story that is not quite newsworthy they will keep digging until they find what they can construe as newsworthy. They could take a story about this seasons largest tomato being grown and turn it into a scandal. Also the government only lets us in on as much as they want to. They could be like my two year old that is crying because his baby brother took one of his fruit loops, but he failed to tell me that he offered him the fruit loop.

the government lies and tries to cover stuff up and people know they do.
the media is supposed to report facts and check stories out, but you would be surprised how often they get it wrong or sensationalize it.
