Right now, meteorologists are saying that Jamaica is going to get a direct hit from Hurricane Dean. But it would be a miracle for Jamaica if Hurricane Dean changes course, but its highly impossible. Their already getting shelters going for the people of Jamaica. The Governor of Louisiana and Texas are also getting emergency plans ready for Dean.

It appears that Jamaica will take a direct hit, but it also did a couple of years ago with Hurricane Ivan when it was closer to Jamaica than Hurricane Dean is now, and the eyewall stayed offshore the whole time. Jamaica is not that large an island and it would be easy for the course of Dean to wobble north or south a bit so that Jamaica does not get the worst of it. And, to the answerer that thinks that Jamaica is already being hit, as of 0015UTC August 19, only high clouds from the far outer bands of Dean are passing over the eastern portion of Jamaica. I just checked the weather at Kingston and the wind is virtually calm. It will be many hours still before the weather starts deteriorating there

Dean will extra suitable than probably consequence Jamaica In a pair of days i think. yet with a hundred forty five MPH winds actual now if it hits Jamaica head on, there will be injury and skill outages prolly everywhere i might carry off some months so issues gets straightened out from the aftermath.

At this point, Jamaica will practically take a direct hit.
According to the NHC, "HURRICANE FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 70 MILES...110 KM...FROM
THE CENTER."
So, basically, Dean is a 140-mile wide tornado.
If you know someone in Jamaica, they need to seek shelter in a sturdy building away from rivers.

the models are in agreement that dean will hit Jamaica. what i am afraid of is that the storm is already a powerful cat 4. when it gets close enough to the island it is projected to reach cat 5 statics. this storm will cause drenching rain strong winds and storm surges. it may also cause horrible mudslides on the island
