Just to name a few the civil rights movement, women rights, we went to the moon, cures and treatments for diseases were found, cities were modernized, more technologies evolved, education improved, communication became easier, we started to question our government more, stereotypes started to break down and people learned to accept other races, religions and cultures more than ever before, computers and the internet were invented, traveling by plane became more affordable. So why do people say that things were better in before the 60s?

We also stopped an unjust war! The music was the absolute best, and the excitement and optimism we felt cannot be expressed in words - there was a thrilling sense that humanity would finally realize its full potential, individually and collectively. No it didn't quite work out that way, yet it was something to live through. There's a saying: "If you remember the 60s, you didn't experience them," but I was right in the thick of things and I can recall the best parts. Sadly, we took a wrong turn somewhere...

Some of the things you mentioned as happening in the 60s actually happened - or were set in motion - earlier.

The most important victory for women - the vote - came at the turn of the last century and women broke into the job market durring WWII. The most important victories of the civil rights movement were in the 50s. The moon shot (and satellite communications) was enabled by technologies developed in WWII by the Germans, and persued by the US as part of the Cold War from the 50s on. Medicine and other technologies have advanced in every decade. Major construction projects were undertaken in the 30s, the highway system began in the late 50s, so plenty was going on in the 60s, but, by the late 70s, environmental concerns had slowed and halted much such 'progress.' Primary education from the 60s on has been a disaster, though college enrollment has mostly climbed (afterall, you need a college degree to get a high school education). Americans have always distrusted thier government, but, in the 60s we began dismissing what it had to say entirely and treating it as the enemy (9/11 conspiracy theories stand as evidence of this trend). If stereotypes have been braking down, how do you explain what liberals and conservatives have to say about eachother on Y!A? I wouldn't count the seeds of Multi-culturalism, Political Correctness, and race-war a great accomplishment, and, while we might be more accepting of other religions, certain other religions don't seem too accepting of us. Computers were invented in the 40s, the Internet came out of DARPA, another Cold War project started in the 50s. Air travel had been encouraged and subsidized by the Goverment since the 30s, and the first modern passenger jet, the Boeing 707, entered service in 1958.

Nothing good came about from the 60's. Crime, drug abuse, pornography, greed, political scandal, inflation, government control, divorce, homosexuality, STD's, terrorism, all increased. Wages, Patroitism, Honesty, Faith, morals, and anything else that was right and good in this country declined. The Babyboomers were the worst generation this country ever had to endure.
