If it's a son/daughter working for their parents as like a maintenance person then there's nothing you can do. If it's like some kid just coming into your place, well, then you need to talk to your landlords and/or call the cops.

In most cases, a landlord is supposed to give tenants at least 24 hours notice that they will be entering the property. This is more for your privacy than anything else. If something was damaged or missing afterwards, you would still notify the landlord or company the engineer works for. It probably wouldn't have made a difference if there was notice or not. Depending on what the engineer was inspecting, it could have been considered an emergency and the notice not available. If you wanted to file a complaint against the landlord, at worst he would probably get fined if there are no other complaints. Then you would have bad blood between the two of you, which is not something you want if you want to continue living peacefully where you are at. The better solution is to talk to the landlord or agent you rent through and ask for 24 hours notice next time.

No, the landlord doesn't have the right either. A landlord must give the tenant 24 hours notice before entering the property for repair or to show the property to perspective tenants. If the 24 hour notice is given he can send a representative in his place (like a maintenance worker or partner).
A landlord is only allowed to enter the premises without permission if there is an emergency or suspected emergency.

No one has the right to enter your home without your permission ever, not even the landlord himself. Depending on where you want to go with this you can A. Call the landlord and tell him that you know it is against the law for him Or any of his family members to enter your house without your permission 72 hours before they plan to make a visit and if it happens again you will contact the police. B you can contact the police. If you decide to call the police you need to figure out whether or not they with try to deny entering the premises if so you may need proof like a witness that does not live in your house maybe some pictures of them entering your home or even a recording of you speaking to your landlord on the phone about this issue.

Absolutely not! The landlord doesn't have the right to enter the property without prior notice (except in an emergency situation). The son/daughter have no legal rights to the property at all. Call the cops!

Nope, in most cases unless specifically detailed in your lease, the landlord or landlords agent needs to provide notification to tenant. Normal time frame is 24 hours unless it is an emergency, of course that is different. Pull your lease out and read thru carefully, then check the website below for the link to the state in which you reside, and see what it says about your situation. It is very dangerous for the landlord to do this because a simple "granny cam" can put that person in jail for trespassing or even theft. I think you should get one, it might be a worthwhile investment.
Good luck

Hi no they dont. neither does the landlord he still has to be invited in.
If they do it again just pick up the phone call 911 and tell them you need a cop becasue you are being threatened..
The landlords son daughts have no rights to be in your home. You have every right to have them charged with tresspass.
You can even ask the police to politely tell them this. too.. We had to do similar becasue our landlord kept entering our place.. He even did it to the girl in the appartment upstairs when she was in bed.
Princessdnb is wrong.. even if they are working as maintainance workers they still have no right to enter without permission and certainly have no right to bully you ...

What's the rest of the story here? Was the son/daughter on drugs? Do you have a pre-existing relationship with the enteree? Or have you failed to pay the rent and the son/daughter showed up to try to collect?

It seems unlikely that this would happen between normal people with no provocation. There's got to be more to the story.

If your apartment complex as the right to enter your apartment without you being there, then that goes for the land lord, and the head of maintenance, thats it. No one else is to enter your property. If someone else was in your apartment, son or not, that is what I would consider trespassing. If they have access to your apartment, and you are worried about this, talk to the land lord. If they are aware of this, and do nothing to correct it, then you need to be finding a new place to live.

No. Your landlord doesn't have that right (bully) either. The landlord and designated agents have the right to inspect their property for damage, etc., but anti-social behavior is subject to law and you might want to get a portable recorder to document the behavior for yourself, the police, the lawyers and possibly their father. Exact laws of admission depend on state and city.
