I am not sure that luck has anything to do with growing old. Everything grows older every single day. A person is like a car. If you take care of it and make sure it has all the things it needs such as oil, gas, etc. it will live long and happy. So, as a person, if you take care of your body, exercise, and eat properly, you are more than likely going to live a long, healthy life as well. Its not a coincidence that people that live healthily lives live longer. God is the one that says when we die, so I am not so sure luck is something that would be a good word choice.

I remember when you were a kid you thought 20 was old, then when you were 20 , 40 was old. I remember I used to go up in the attic and use my Moms old Yugi board. It said I would die when I was 40, well I'm still here and will be 60 next month. So much for that.
No, luck has nothing to do with it. Some people who are young die for no fault of their own, by accidents or illness.

If I can grow old and have good health and be able to take care of myself, then I will feel lucky, indeed. I don't want to be a burden on my kids.

Essentially. The alternative is death and I do believe it is possible to grow old gracefully and well; and, while I recognize that taking care of ourselves has something to do with being able to do that, I have also learned in my 61 years that some of this is determined by sheer luck, the genes we have inherited, etc.

In a way, yes, I believe that...After all, many die young for various reasons not under their control. I feel blessed to still be here and able to enjoy AND recognize the beauty in the simpler things of life that cannot be taken away like love, nature, breathing, music, books, etc.

I think that depends on your personal situation.
If you are surrounded by family that loves you and enjoys your company then yes it would be nice to live longer and enjoy life.
On the flip side if you live alone or in a nursing home and are sick and so lonely, no one cares to visit I would just as soon fade away.

Yes, but I prefer to say if I am blessed.
My Grandad was 88 when he passed, his brother was 102, my dad was 59, when he passed, my grandmother was 64 when she passed. So, if I can make it to 85, I will be happy. Any time after that age is truly a gift from God.

lucky only if you in good health till the end.
Bed sores , Diapers , Alzheimer's , wheel chairs, oxygen mask, canes, walkers, falling down, broken shattered bones, 100s of pills a day. lonelyness, not eating well, empty feelings,
depression, crying. attention span gone, and just waiting to die. wrote a poem.
Dying
.
.
cold hands grasping at light
.
new babies crying
laughing
.
a gentle breeze dances
soft blue butterflies lift me
.
all that matters means nothing now
but a whisper of being loved
.
for time..., a one way mirror, has found me
.
hold me please
hold me
I want to love again
.
