I've looked at a few, only to find they were fake or had shifty motives. Any alternatives? What have you found helpful to getting the most roles, FREE?

I just want to know how to get started - commercials and whatnot. Like little jobs to build my experience. (I never asked for a magic fix, Theater Doc. I know it's a hard business. I've been in it before.)

actorsaccess.com has free listings and is free to join and you can upload 2 photos for free. However, it's about a $70 subscription fee if you want to be able to submit electronically. And unfortunately, some castings only allow for the electronic submissions.

Acting is a business, never forget that. It's a ton of fun, but still a business and a lot of hard work to get there, so naturally, like any business, you have to invest in it physically, emotionally and even financially. I mean, you had to pay for headshots, right? And for reproductions? Etc. etc. etc. You don't get there for free. Any working actor will tell you the same.

Hey- I've been looking for years and finally came upon one a few weeks ago. Actorspages.org is a completely free casting site. You should definitely check it out!

Also, you should check out starsearchcasting.com. The site is free, but to reply to a casting post, you have to go up a level in membership to silver ($10 a month.) Hope this helps!

Los angeles had backstage west in the local store which is $1.75 and is great, for all kinds of casting calls. If you live in NY, you have to be able to find this paper which comes out weekly in your local store. If not, got to backstage.com and get contact info and ask them where you can pick up the paper.
