A = (cosx)^2
B = (cosx)^2
C = cos(x^2)

A and B are the same.

By convention, a positive exponent written on the cos name is applied to the result of the cos operation. (cos^n y = [cosy]^n)

This is done so that cosx^2 can be unambigiously interpreted as cos(x^2).
